First he allegedly stole things from behind police tape at a crime scene, but if he wants Claire to be his kid, he could have slipped in something of Victoria's. GC's DNA experts don't seem to be too astute.

Why would Cole want Claire to be his if she's not? Unless he's working with Jordan to get something from Victoria and the Newmans.
I can't think of a reason why Victoria and Cole didn't request that Claire be swabbed. This is just another badly written, cockamamie storyline. Claire seems so distraught that she would have given them anything they asked to prove who she is.

I agree with this. On the other hand, they needn't have bothered because the Genoa City DNA Lab appears to have an open door policy where random people can come come in and do all sorts of nefarious things and not get caught. The security there is right on par with the Newman ranch security gang who are utterly incompetent. |

I've been trying to figure out what Cole has been up to since he left GC years ago - 1) living in a homeless encampment? 2) been severely ill? or 3) got that slack-jawed look because he is wistful thinking what his lonely life could have been like if he were still married to Victoria and Eve had lived. If #3, or any of them really, he may want a daughter/family now. That's what sent my mind to thinking he might have grabbed something of Nikki's &/or Jordan's from the Oregon house intentionally or unintentionally.
I never was convinced Summer was Nick's kid based on hair from her brush because both Faith & Summer hung out in the Tacky house with him at the time. Faith was ~7, and normal little girls have been known to borrow Mom's or big sis' brush or been touched up by them to make kiddo look presentable before leaving the house. When I was a kid we had a communal comb & brush in the first floor powder room that Mom & all of us kids used rather than run upstairs for a couple of swipes.
I can see using hair or a toothbrush to learn if she could be theirs, but then follow it up with a proper swab done to confirm her identity with a clear chain of custody of the sample. Given CG's poor quality DNA work, I'd collect multiple samples and send them to 2-3 reputable labs outside of GC.

None of it makes sense to me--I mean, why would they sneak around and remove stuff from Claire's house, when she had already agreed to give them a sample?
