Two days of reruns but holy moly - two consecutive days of great old episodes. Soapy good episodes! Soapy good acting!

fantastic repeat episode Friday US. The show was so much better then that it made me want to cry. So many stories woven together, and not only were there such huge memorable moments like Kevin locking Colleen in the freezer and setting Gina's on fire, AND Ashley showing up at the Art Council Gala with "Robert" the blanket, but even the smaller scenes were moving and strong, like Neil being a good dad to Lily, Bobby Marsino introducing himself to Nikki, and Brittney trying to get Raul back. Incredible contrast with the current show. Nothing cartoony, everything riveting.

Today's episode was so good, so full of various interesting scenes, that it made me kind of sad to think about how bad the writing is now. For me, the only consistently good thing about Y&R these days is the photography and the scenery designs. But the old episodes were even better at those things!

I wonder if the choice of the 20-yr-old episode where Ashley showed up with "Robert" the blanket is a foreshadowing of Ashley having another mental breakdown with her memory of violent Tucker vs his mad but not violent memory of the end of their honeymoon. We'll probably need an in-colour scene from the point of view of the wait staff in Paris to learn the real story compared to the B&W memories.
It was interesting to contrast Britney being proud of her "craft" while Nikki was about to explode when Bobby Marsino mentioned her days at The Bayou. Also, wasn't Bobby's brother Joshua the first of five people Nikki has killed? (Joshua was an accident when they were 5 and and playing with her father's gun). Her pretending like she didn't know Bobby wasn't very convincing.

Nikki didn't remember until much later somehow (I forget how) something triggered her repressed memory of playing with the gun and shooting the kid. Bobby was a very interesting character, sort of sleazy and tactless but also good-hearted.

Why did Kevin burn down Gina's? Colleen Carlton, Lily's best friend, hated Kevin and Lily's relationship and often told Kevin how she felt. In return, Kevin attempted to kill Colleen by locking her in the refrigerator at local restaurant, Gina's, and then setting it on fire.

Why did Kevin burn down Gina's? Sorry! I messed up and don't know how to delete this.
