Bill Hayes, better known as 'Doug' on the show, passed away on Friday surrounded by family. He was 98 years old. His last appearance, was during the Horton Christmas party in December. His wife Susan Seaforth Hayes, plays Julie on Days. They met while filming the series.
The cause of death has not been revealed. Born William Foster Hayes III, in Harvey, Illinois in 1925, Hayes began his career as a musician, and had a hit with The Ballad of Davy Crockett. He began to focus more on acting, and landed his most notable role on NBC's Days of Our Lives in February 1970 as a convict, who was also a lounge singer. He, and his wife played an on- screen couple, and eventually became a real-life couple, tying the knot in 1974. They said "I do" again, but this time on the show. Their romance led them to appear on the cover of Time that year.
In 2018, they both received the Daytime Emmys Lifetime Achievement Awards. Hayes had 5 children from a previous marriage to Mary Hobbs. We send condolence, and prayers to the family. He will be missed. Rest In Peace, Doug.

98, wow. What a long life. I hope he was healthy til the end and passed peacefully.
I read he was on the show for five decades! Five decades, imagine that! He and Susan would have celebrated their 50th anniversary this year.
