It's going to be difficult to write this because so I don't want to spoil it for anyone. LFE was a book first, which Reese Witherspoon turned into a Hulu series starring herself and Kerry Washington. I don't get Hulu but it looked good so I decided to read the book...always better anyway. A friend of mine was watching the series at the same time. As I was reading the first few dhapters, something wasn't making sense to me. In the series, Kerry Washington and her daughter are black. Certain things were said in the book that led me to believe the characters were not black. A series of events occur in th book, and part of the subplot is that of an affluent family vs their poor tenent. There is a much more complex issue to the story that I don't want to spoil. Anyway, after I finished the book I asked my friend is the tv series made it into a story about race and she said yes, it was a large part of the story. This really bugged me. The story was thought provoking without having to dilute it by entering a racial discrimination story into it.
